The Alexandria Library
The film depicting the life of the famous queen Cleopatra, showing her grief upon hearing the news about the complete loss of the Alexandria Library (which is her hometown) has let the modern world understand the devastation that this cause. However many do not really understand the importance of this library to the modern world thus showing the queen’s real despair.
Upon the burning of the original Library of Alexandria it was deemed a great loss because it houses some of the most well-known and earliest manuscripts in the whole world. Because of the fire, many books and literary works has been lost forever. When the new library of Alexandria was reconstructed and opened it’s doors to the public in 2002 the world rejoiced with it’s recovery of the earlier loss.
Today the New Alexandria Library is again home to millions of book and manuscript collections from all over the world. In a attempt to recreate what was lost before, the designers created enough space to hold more than 8 million volumes of books. Additionally there is now a conference center and individual libraries for the blind as well as for the children’s collection.
The New Alexandria Library is constructed upon the original location of the ancient Library of Alexandria. Not to be outdone by the ancient library the construction of the new one is of a design and engineering genius. From the top the New Alexandria Library has the appearance of an enormous sundial resting among the other buildings, modern and ancient as well as the city’s waterfront.
