The Life and Death of Tutankhamen
Born in 1341 BC, the son of the Pharaoh Akhenaten and his sister/wife, he succeeded and ascended the throne in 1333 BC when he was only 9 years old. Since he was so young when he became king, many historians believe that he had some powerful and bright advisers to aid him of his work. Presumably these aids include the General Horemheb, the Vizier Ay, and the Overseer of Treasures Maya.
When he was king, he made some changes like re-established the worship of the god Amun, which was then banned by his father. He also moved the capital back to Thebes (now Luxor) which is the known city of Amun, and restored the temples of Amun in this area.
During the reign of his father, it is known that the country is in turmoil with relations to other countries in ruins. Tutankhamen was able to restore these relations, in fact some of the gifts from foreign countries where also recovered in his tomb.
However, at the age of 19, King Tutankhamen succumb to death for reasons that until today is being debated on. There were speculations that the king was assassinated, but recent studies suggest that the young king suffered a broken leg and DNA checks also discovered malaria in his system during the time of death.
There were also speculations that since the young king are a product of a union between a brother and a sister, thus the king suffers from many genetic defects that also contributed to his early death.
The Treasures inside the Museum
Most of the recovered treasures are now on display in the Egyptian Museum, however the body of the young king is on display still in this tomb though in a special encasement in the Valley of the Kings.
